TechnoServe helps people lift themselves out of poverty by harnessing the power of the private sector. A leading nonprofit organization operating in almost 30 countries, we work with hardworking women and men in the developing world to build competitive farms, businesses, and industries. By linking people to information, capital, and markets, we have helped millions to create lasting prosperity for their families and communities.  Working remotely with TechnoServe’s South African hub, the Yale team examined ways in which trends in donor funding have altered the types of projects undertaken and affected the outcome metrics reported.

Veritas Consulting advises public and development sector partners by conducting research and assisting private sector facing public institutions develop policies, regulations and capacity to create a strong, enabling environment for growth.  For public policy engagements, Veritas addresses the complexity of Ethiopia’s economic development challenges and provides policy options that catalyze systemic amelioration of the nation’s developing sectors.  The Yale team worked remotely with an ongoing project to implement an off-grid energy network for isolated  areas within Ethiopia, helping to forecast demand and analyze the various risk considerations undertaken by stakeholders in the project.

IOHK is a software engineering company that builds blockchain solutions and cryptocurrencies and which offers blockchain consultancy for corporations, government and academic institutions. IOHK was founded with the dual vision of building the first blockchain operating system underpinned by the largest bank of peer-reviewed science in the industry, and which has sought more broadly to achieve a democratic, inclusive and equitable society through the development of a blockchain-based operating system which circumvents limitations of previous blockchain systems such as a lack of interoperability and global scalability. In two different projects, Yale team members studied application and implementation strategies for using distributed ledger technologies to record, track and verify university transcripts across Ethiopia.
